The Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Uganda (AOGU) is the Health Professional Association with the Mandate to promote professionalism, undertake Research and Champion Sexual and Reproductive health and Rights of the people in the region.

The Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Uganda (AOGU) provides Leadership in Quality Reproductive Health through implementation of its Mission to Advance Reproductive Health services through Excellence in Clinical Practice, Education, Research, Collaborations and Advocacy.

The Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Uganda (AOGU) represented by its President congratulates the Ministry of Health (MoH)/Government of Uganda (GoU) for the Significant Reduction in the Maternal Mortality to 189 per 100,000 live births (336/100,000 live births, UDHS 2016) and the 91% of all Births Attended by a skilled provider (74%, UDHS 2016).

I congratulate AOGU members providing leadership for policy/guideline development, revision and dissemination at the National Safe Motherhood Expert Committees (NASMEC) and at the Local Maternity and Newborn Systems (LMNSs) in all Regions. I congratulate all MoH collaborators and the Development partners.

The AOGU reminds the MoH and its partners that a lot of work is still needed to impact changes Teenage pregnancies, low Postnatal care uptake, Unsafe abortion, the stagnant Neonatal mortality rates and women experiencing sexual violence.

The AOGU also awaits the completion of the Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) policy guidelines and Framework to support Quality of Care at all levels. 

The AOGU will continue to provide Leadership, Accountability, Collaboration and Advocacy for Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) policy Development/Revision/Dissemination/Implementation through the Six AOGU Strategic policy priorities in line to the RMNCAH Sharpened plan and other International SRH frameworks.

The AOGU awaits the final UDHS 2022 report to input into its plans.
