Annual Conference for Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of
Uganda (AOGU) 23rd – 24th August 2018

AOGU is a professional body (not for profit) mandated in part to champion Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in the region. Our mission is to provide good leadership for SRHR in the region.

The theme of this year’s Conference is:

“Achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to contribute to universal health: Innovations to enhance newborn and women’s health.”

Presentation at the conference will cover the following sub themes:
• Professionalism & partnership
• STI/HIV in reproductive health
• Maternal Health Issues
• Capacity building in reproductive health
• Family planning
• Gynaecological oncology
• Abortion and related complications
• Ethics and Medico-legal issues

Realizing that Uganda and indeed most African countries are mandated to achieving SDGs particularly for maternal and newborn health, we thought it fit to discuss at length and share experiences towards achieving SDG3. We still battle with large numbers of women dying during childbirth from excessive bleeding, abortion related complications, life threatening infections during childbirth and unacceptable numbers of newborn deaths. For those who escape death at childbirth many live on with serious disabilities. Our total fertility rate is still high reflecting the suboptimal provision of family planning which could have otherwise reduced on preventable deaths during childbirth.
